FOOT STOMPIN, CLEVELAND BLUES

By playing a gut-bucket slide on his 3-string Cigar Box Guitar while singing and stomping on a tambourine and an old trunk, Singer Songwriter Jeff Powers creates his own “gumbo” styled brand of Roots, Blues and Americana…a mountain of sound from one guy. It’s like Neil Young joined the Black Keys to play the blues.
“Jeff Powers is one of Rockwired’s “25 Guitarists You Gotta Know”…his self-titled release is an engaging listen that will leave the listener amazed at the guitarist’s musicality and virtuosity as well as his tremendous sense of songcraft.” Brian Lush ROCKWIRED MAGAZINE

The Challenge

Design an album cover that is not only attractive on a shelf, but gives listeners a window into the style, influence and attitude of the music.

The Solution

After studying the music on the record, I created album artwork that not only resembles a cigar box(Jeff used a cigar-box guitar to record the entire album), but captures the grittyness of the style of the Mississippi Blues that is oh so prevalent in “If It Ain’t This It’s That”. The icons on the “wrap” relate directly to lyrical content from various songs.
